Record-keeping in the Negro Leagues could be somewhat haphazard. Fortunately, in recent decades a number of researchers have reconstructed Negro League statistics from old box scores and game accounts. These are still incomplete, but they are far better than what was available 20 or 30 years ago.
The best source for Charleston and for all Negro Leagues statistics is Seamheads. Seamheads is more complete than what is found at Baseball Reference and also more trustworthy. New data is being added constantly by Gary Ashwill and his team. My advice is to view all other statistical sources, especially those which were compiled prior to 2000 or so, with quite a bit of skepticism.
